The Virgin Islands National Park is a beautiful national park located in the US Virgin Islands, more specifically the island of St. John. Established August 2, 1956, the Virgin Islands are known for their scenic hills and breathtaking coral reefs. Their beaches go on for miles and the hiking trails are fit for both amatur and experienced hikers. Other fun activities that this national park provides are scuba diving, snorkeling, camping, kayaking, windsurfing, and sailing.
The Virgin Islands National Park is rich with prehistoric sites dating as far back as Columbus! These sights can show you the religious and social evolution of the Caribbean. Its history spans centuries and tells the stories of the free and enslaved people. It is an experience you will never forget!
There is no admission fee to go into the park (everybody loves free!), however, there are fees for certain activities within the park. There is a $15 cost for anchoring and mooring. All overnight fees must be paid before visiting and a maximum seven days may be spent overnight at one bay. Most areas of the park are open 24 hours, but some areas close at certain times. Our brochure can be referenced for activity times.
There is just so much to explore! An ecosystem is a community of living and nonliving things working together. This national park has a large terrestrial ecosystem, coastal ecosystem, and marine ecosystem. The coral reefs provide an excellent habitat for thousands of organisms to thrive in. A biome is a larger sort of ecosystem, it contains similar geographical and climatic conditions (ex. tundra biome, marine/island biome). A biome can contain more than one ecosystem. The Virgin Islands National Park is a marine biome.
